Equality, Inclusion and Diversity Policy
Louisa Barry - Voice believes in providing an equal opportunities environment where everyone is supported, nurtured and respected whatever their race, gender, sexuality, age, religion, belief or disability. These values extend to everyone we teach, collaborate with and learn from. We believe in creating a community where all are treated with dignity. It serves our voice community best if we recognise the value of each individual and combat prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination together.
Louisa Barry - Voice is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion pursuing non-discriminatory policies and practice, actively being an allay and positively advocating for any potentially disadvantaged person and eliminating unfair discrimination on grounds of age, gender, gender identity, marital status, sexual orientation, pregnancy or maternity, religion or belief, class, nationality, colour, ethnic origin, political belief or disability which is underpinned by the provisions of the single Equality Act 2010.
Our mission is to unite the Voice Community with a seamless line of communication that both educates and motivates voice teachers, voice professionals and voice learners of our future generation. Creating a movement that is inclusive, informative and provides a safe space for honest conversations along with inciting regular observations of the appropriate delivery of inclusive voice training.
This movement aims to remove the fear of discussing racism amongst peers and colleagues and to ensure that good practices within the voice training industry are adhered to. It is an opportunity to share best practice and work as a collective to improve racial equality and representation in the voice training industry.
We want to develop a continuum of conversation between academic schools, the private voice studio sector, vocational training and through into the industry. To promote the importance of appropriate teaching methods and language, along with the understanding of what it means to not only be diverse, but inclusive. Louisa Barry – Voice encourages teachers of the next generation to pay respect to the pioneers and celebrate the origins of voice, music and performing arts that were influenced by black culture.
Together we are louder.
